If sharks could scream

Journal Entry: Mon Apr 14, 2008, 11:29 AM
Nothing outrages me more than cruelty to animals, and this is another appalling example.  You may have heard of the Asian dish called Shark Fin Soup.  The fisherman grab the sharks from the ocean, brutally hack off all their fins then throw the poor creature back into the ocean.  The mutilated shark cannot swim, cannot hunt, and perhaps after WEEKS of suffering will eventually die.  It was noted by one conservationist that the shark appeared to be in a state of terror.  Around 100 million sharks are killed every year for this soup.   The shark fins have no taste, no nutritional value and is the equivalent of eating your own finger nails.  By killing this many sharks every year, the eco balance of the world's oceans is in serious danger.  This is a good article to read if you want to learn more [link]

There are times when I am not only disgusted with humans, but am truly astonished by their sheer stupidity!  And brutality!  What kind of human would do this to such a magnificent creature?  Ultimately it is the consumer to blame.  It is the very same for the fur and ivory trade.  If morons ceased to buy these products, these animals would not be hunted in such a way.

Sharks are often misunderstood.  They are not the fierce man-eaters they are made out to so often be.  If they attack a human it is usually because the shark has mistaken the human for their prey, ie: a turtle or seal.  Most species of sharks are totally harmless, such as the Grey Nurse.

Are humans the most stupidest, most pointless creature of all?  Truly, what purpose do we serve here?  We are destroying this planet rapidly.  It would seem we have no idea how to live in harmony with nature.  Now they report that the world is running out of food.   And some people talk about colonising other planets... what for?  So we can spread our disease throughout entire galaxies??

"Are humans the most stupidest, most pointless creature of all?"
My Answer: We aren't the most stupidest creatures of all, but we sure are the most pointless creatures in the entire galaxy.
Nice journal! I'm so glad that I have you as a friend :glomp:

I just watched it... god, from beauty to such savagery. It was hard to watch the second portion. It leaves me without words, just an inner rage to see such brutal and senseless acts.
I do wonder if this planet will ever be saved.
:(
i applaud the person who did this, and their good choice of music ;) if i was a member of youtube i would have left a comment.

Actually is my movie. But I didn't want to tell you that, I wanted you to say a honest opinion of it. Now I'm incredible happy that you like it. :)
I agree with you. Every night when I don't have sleep, I think at the future of this planet, and I also ask myself if it will ever be saved...
When I saw those wolves killed, with a lot of blood around them, and that poor deer with it's head upside down, I cried a bit. That is just one of the biggest cruelty I ever saw...

wow! :D bravo to you! I wish so many others were as passionate about caring for animals. I had a lump in my throat too... it's hard to see such beautiful animals reduced to that.
I was laying awake last night too, thinking of what i saw in that shark documentry... i feel frustrated and helpless. I want to believe that somehow this suffering and madness will end, but it never seems to.

Aw, thank you so much! I am glad to have you as a friend too
It really is astonishing though, that humans DO have a great level of intelligence... but yet we commit acts against nature, this very planet which sustains us, which will eventually cause our demise. Somehow that just reeks of stupidity

I will have a look at the link in just a minute :)

I dislike sharks but...probably would not like to see them starve to death without fins. Still, they ARE mindless eating machines (come on, they are!) and I wouldn't mind seeing them disappear from the planet. We don't need them. They eat up the fish that many fisherman try to catch. And they make the water a hazzard. Someone said that there is no such thing as an 'evil' shark and to that I say 'Right, there are just sharks. That's bad enough.' Once again, I don't want them to suffer but vanishing is fine by me!

oh dear :( well, if you read up a little, you will discover that sharks actually clean up the oceans, they scavenge on already dead prey and are needed for the eco balance. You see, the amount of phosphate is building up in some parts of the world's oceans because sharks are no longer there. Phosphate poisons the water... thus, no life at all!
The ocean belongs to them and other marine life, not to us. The oceans are being overfished and fishermen are the mindless killing machines whilst humans are the mindless eating machines.

We are eating machines and we will exhaust our supplies. Funny, I've watched MANY specials about sharks and they never mentions the phosphate build up. Mh. That IS something to think of. But I don't like sharks because they are powerful but not very intelligent and you MUST agree with me there. Wolves, Doplhins, Chimps, etc, are creatures I would defend and fight for but sharks are so....-sneers- I respect their design, their power, but the creature I have no like for. Still, don't want them to suffer.
